Less than three weeks after surviving a terrible automobile accident that killed two of his close friends, former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua is back in the gym.

According to reports, a Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and members of his entourage collided with a stalled truck parked on the shoulder of the road on December 29 along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

Joshua was very slightly hurt in the collision, but Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, and Kevin Latif Ayodele, his personal trainer, perished there.

Before being released, the 36-year-old boxer had medical care in Nigeria. Later, he went back to the UK with his deceased companions’ remains and went to a London mosque to attend their burial prayers.

Joshua’s first public training session after the incident was on Thursday, when he posted pictures and videos of himself back in the gym.

The former two-time world champion wrote “Mental strength therapy” as the caption for a sparring video that was shared on social media.

Before moving on to weight training, spinning exercises, and swimming as part of his recuperation regimen, Joshua was seen in the video lightly sparring.

Other than honoring his departed colleagues, Joshua has mostly been quiet since the accident, characterizing the time as extremely taxing.

Although there has been no formal confirmation of when he intends to rejoin competitive boxing, his return to training is a step back toward normalcy.
