The All Progressives Congress (APC) government of Governor Uba Sani has been characterized as a failure by Isa Ashiru, a former candidate for governor of Kaduna State from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to reports, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Kaduna State University chapter went on an indefinite strike on Thursday because Governor Sani had not complied with the union’s agreement.
The union’s chairman, Peter Adamu, and secretary, Peter Waziri, signed the notice of strike letter, which mentioned the non-payment of promotion arrears, pension, and withholding salary as some of the agreements that Governor Sani’s government had broken.
It stated: “The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), KASU branch would like to inform the public that the National Executive Council (NEC) has granted the branch’s congress’s request to resume the indefinitely suspended strike action, effective today, April 24, 2025.” For the record, the following concerns are at issue: 1. Payment of all salary that were withheld (May through September 2022, among others); The amount of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) paid since 2026; 4. Group Life Assurance and other benefits to departed members; 3. Payment of SIWES supervision payments and promotion arrears; 5. Non-payment of pensions from 2009 to 2019; 6. Establishment of wage awards of 25% and 35%; 7. The return of university autonomy.
“The Kaduna State government has violated the trust and failed to honor the agreement reached by both parties, which is the reason for the indefinite strike action.”
Ashiru said that the ASUU strike was a judgment on Sani’s administration in a statement released on Friday. He gave ASUU his word that he would back their strike.

“The APC-led Kaduna government is being damned by the ASUU-KASU indefinite strike, which is more than just a labor movement. Unpaid pensions, withheld wages, and unfulfilled commitments. This government has shown disdain for education. It’s enough.
For many years, our institutions have been reduced to shadows, our lecturers ignored, and our students left behind. Systemic, intentional, and shameful, APC’s failure is not a coincidence. Governance is not this. It is treacherous.
“We are completely in solidarity with ASUU-KASU.” The struggle for high-quality education is a struggle for the future of Kaduna. “It is imperative that citizens take a stand and declare that our children will never again be sacrificed on the altar of incompetence,” he stated.
