An arrest has been made for Dr. Fabian Ihekweme, a former commissioner and outspoken opponent of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.

The Nigeria Police Force detained him at his home in Abuja.

SaharaReporters was informed that his wife and kids were there when he was arrested on Wednesday.

It has been reported that Ihekweme was removed from his house and brought to Owerri, Imo State.

The arrest’s specifics were disclosed in a tweet on Thursday by human rights attorney Deji Adeyanju.

“Last night, policemen kidnapped Dr. Fabian Ihekweme, a critic, from his Abuja home in front of his wife and kids, and took him to Owerri,” he wrote.

“His crime was to criticize Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.”

Adeyanju called the action an assault on free speech and vehemently denounced it.

He also compared Burna Boy, a Nigerian artist, to Uzodinma’s purported intolerance for criticism. He went on, “Like Burna Boy, like Uzodinma.”
