The latest threats made by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) against Christians in Nigeria have been denounced by former presidential advisor Bashir Ahmad, who claims that the group’s acts have no religious justification.
Using his official 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account, Ahmad made the comments on Friday, characterizing the terrorist organization’s campaign as a perversion of Islam and distancing it from Islamic principles.
Ahmad remarked, “It is clear that the ISWAP terrorists who are threatening Christians to convert to Islam or risk death are not Muslims, and their actions in no way represent Islam or its teachings.”
He emphasized that Islam prohibits coercion in religious affairs and remembered that the religion was propagated peacefully.
Islam was never propagated by violence, intimidation, or coercion. There is no religious obligation, according to the Qur’an.
“Muslims and non-Muslims coexisted peacefully in Makkah and Madinah even during the time of our beloved Prophet (PBUH), bound by mutual respect, justice, and shared humanity,” he stated.
ISWAP’s violent acts and threats, according to Ahmad, are a betrayal of Islamic values and humanity in general.
“What these terrorists are doing is a total betrayal of Islam and a perversion of its principles.” He continued, “Their ongoing campaign of violence and intimidation is completely unacceptable and goes against both our religion and humanity.
