More than 500 asset declaration forms of public officials have been examined by the Code of Conduct Bureau’s (CCB) recently established Financial Investigation and Fraud Analysis Unit (FIFAU).
Abdullahi Bello, the Bureau’s chairman, reportedly announced this in Abuja during the presentation of his one-year stewardship. Moses Atolagbe, the Director of Special Duties at the Bureau, signed a declaration containing the information.
Bello emphasized that the exercise was intended to maintain integrity and accountability in public service and stated that the investigations found disparities that would support enforcement proceedings against negligent officials.
He stated that the Bureau has so far validated the asset declaration forms of 40 federal directors, 43 permanent secretaries, and nine ministers. He added that the verification process is ongoing to guarantee compliance monitoring at all governmental levels.
Bello stated, “The Bureau has established a strong system to monitor declarations and assist enforcement when needed.”
Bello highlighted the Bureau’s improvements under his direction, including the introduction of an online asset declaration system that enables public officers to download the CCB Form-1 on the Bureau’s website.
He clarified that the agency had saved millions of naira by digitizing the procedure instead of printing manual forms.
According to Bello, 199 CCB employees have received training in ethical governance, forensic analysis, inquiry, and verification.
In order to conduct intelligence operations, assist with prosecutions, and supervise state-level enforcement, he continued, the Bureau had also established director-led zonal offices.
The Bureau has collaborated with national and international anti-graft organizations, such as the EFCC, ICPC, DSS, NFIU, and multiple foreign embassies, to bolster its efforts.
Bello pointed out that the CCB was now represented at global forums like the Association of Commonwealth Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa, the US IVLO 2025, and the Cambridge Economic Crime Forum.
The Chairman emphasized that the Bureau’s new motto, “Declare or Forfeit,” served as the administration’s compass.
He emphasized that accountability and openness were still the essential ways to rebuild public trust in government and asked public servants to honestly disclose their holdings.
President Bola Tinubu appointed Bello, who took office on October 23, 2024, and reaffirmed his dedication to upholding institutional integrity, efficiency, and furthering Nigeria’s anti-corruption strategy.
