Deji Adeyanju, the lawyer for controversial social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, often known as VeryDarkMan, has said that Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo’s defamation lawsuit against his client is not serious.
According to reports, VeryDarkMan (VDM) was summoned by the Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6 due to accusations of criminal defamation against gospel artist Mercy Chinwo.
Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna instructed VDM to personally appear before the court on March 13, 2025, in order to address the charges made by Chinwo, in a court order dated March 5, 2025.
The singer was accused of contractual wrongdoing and the diversion of $345,000 in monies connected to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, commonly known as Eezee Tee, in purported defamatory remarks posted by VDM on social media.
Chinwo said that VDM’s accusations were wholly untrue, damaging, and detrimental to her reputation. She backed up her statements with documentation, such as emails and payment receipts.

Chinwo’s attorney, Pelumi Olajengbesi, claimed in the lawsuit that VDM’s acts were against Section 24 (1)(B) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015 and Section 391 of the Penal Code.
Adeyanju called Mercy Chinwo’s defamation lawsuit against VeryDarkMan a farce in a recent interview with AIT.
“Pay N1.1 billion for what?” he asked. What is it over? Since this is not a court of law, I don’t want to talk about it. Once more, I don’t want to give the opposition access to our tactics. We therefore have nothing to say. There is nothing serious about the legal matter. It’s a joke. It’s a total farce.
