Dele Momodu, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has called on the federal government to take US President Donald Trump’s warning seriously.
Remember that last Saturday, just one day after declaring that Christianity was “facing an existential threat” in the most populous country in Africa, Trump ordered the Pentagon to draft a potential strike strategy in Nigeria.
Since then, the US president has reaffirmed his threat to use force in Nigeria in response to reports of Christian massacres.
Speaking about the development, Momodu said that Trump believes the Nigerian administration is neither serious nor equipped to deal with the nation’s growing insecurity.
He submitted it on Friday when appearing on the Morning Brief on Channels Television.
The leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) recommended that the government take decisive action in the matter.
In the meantime, Momodu has voiced concern for President Bola Tinubu regarding Trump’s recent warning.
Momodu claims that he felt sorry for Tinubu since now is not the ideal time for him to be president of Nigeria.
“The president needs to get people who have the capacity to speak and will be listened to,” he stated. These political jobbers are not all of them. The president’s political skills are excellent. He has the power to force all of Nigeria’s governors to join the All Progressives Congress, or APC, but we have already moved past that point.
“Two weeks ago, President Tinubu would have simply responded, ‘No, it’s not possible,’ if someone had informed him that he would be in this dangerous scenario.
“I must admit that I felt sorry for him when I saw him speak last night because this is not the ideal moment to be Nigeria’s president. He must now put on the thinking cap for himself, his group, and all of Nigeria.
