The driver has been arrested and an investigation into the criminal network has begun after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) discovered 64 bags of cannabis sativa hidden inside a cement-filled trailer along the Zaria–Kano road.
Officers from the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, who are affiliated with the Kiru Area Command, executed the seizure on February 2, 2026, after conducting what the agency characterized as meticulous monitoring and intelligence-led surveillance.
On February 13, 2026, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, released a press release stating that the trailer had left Obajana in Kogi State and was on its way to Mubi in Adamawa State when it was stopped.
The illegal shipment was discovered hidden among the legal goods in the vehicle, which was allegedly carrying cement made by Dangote Cement.
D.Y. Lawal, the commander of the Kano Strategic Command, stated that the operation demonstrated the agency’s dedication to cutting off drug trafficking networks.
Lawal stated, “The diligent intelligence work and the commitment of our officers led to this seizure.” The drugs are thought to have been meant for distribution in Kano prior to the start of Ramadan and were hidden inside legitimate cargo. Drug traffickers cannot jeopardize our communities’ safety and spiritual well-being.
The trailer’s driver has been taken into jail by NDLEA until an inquiry is conducted.
The Kano Command would step up enforcement activities throughout the state, Lawal continued, in accordance with orders from Mohamed Buba Marwa, the agency’s chairman and chief executive officer.
He stated, “We will maintain intelligence-driven operations throughout the state, strengthen checkpoints, and increase patrols in accordance with the directives of our Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), CON, OFR.” All collaborators and facilitators are being sought for and apprehended as part of the ongoing investigation into the network behind this cargo. The harshest legal penalties will be applied to those found guilty.
The organization also urged the public to assist its endeavors by supplying pertinent information.
The statement went on, “Sustained community cooperation is essential to protect citizens and preserve the peace and sanctity of communal and religious observances.”
