Farmers in Ekiti State have thrown their weight behind the proposed Ekiti Farm Summit, describing it as a timely initiative that will reposition the agricultural sector of the state, while congratulating Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his re-election and commending Dr. Oluwatosin Ademola Ojo for his contributions to the development of agriculture.
Farmers under the aegis of the Ekiti Farmers Forum said the proposed summit would serve as a platform to address challenges confronting farmers, attract investment into agriculture and promote food security across the state.
They stated that the re-election of Governor Oyebanji is a manifestation of the people’s confidence in his administration and expressed optimism that his second tenure will further consolidate policies geared towards transforming agriculture and rural development.
The group also commended Dr. Ojo for his consistent support to farmers through the Dr. Ademola Ojo Farming and Feeding Initiative and the Sade-Ademola Foundation, saying the interventions had enabled farmers access to basic agricultural inputs and increased farming activities in the state.
Farmers say the schemes have helped raise productivity and are expected to increase yields and improve the living standards of farming communities.
They said sustained support and strategic interventions in agriculture were still needed to achieve food security, job creation and economic growth in Ekiti State.
The forum called on governments, development partners and other stakeholders to continue to give agriculture top priority, calling the sector the backbone of the state’s economy.
It also urged the Ekiti indigenes in the diaspora to learn from the example of Dr. Ojo, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa, by backing projects that foster agricultural development and strengthen local farmers.
The farmers assured their support for President Bola Tinubu and APC candidates in Ekiti state ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying they were confident of the party’s commitment to the advancement of agricultural development and welfare of citizens.
