Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) has sacked 13 employees for sexual misconduct, desertion of duty, and other breaches.
Professor Joseph Ayodele, the Vice-Chancellor, spoke at a news conference on Monday ahead of the institution’s 29th convocation ceremony, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to maintaining discipline among staff and students.
He insisted that the university will not accept any type of misbehavior.
“Under my leadership, the University has set an exceptional standard for staff and student discipline. Our administration despises all forms of misconduct, and individuals implicated in acts of indiscipline have been suitably sanctioned in accordance with University policies,” he remarked.
The VC revealed that three staff members were fired for abandoning their duties, one for sexual misconduct, and three others were forbidden from holding senior roles for three years.
In addition, nine staff members’ appointments were terminated, while 21 were issued warnings for other violations.
In preparation for the convocation celebration on Saturday, March 29, 2025, Professor Ayodele revealed that 200 of the 16,446 graduates from the 2022/23 and 2023/24 academic sessions will be granted first-class honours.
A breakdown of the bachelor’s degree classifications indicated that 5,406 students received second-class upper division, 9,076 received second-class lower division, 1,295 received third-class degrees, and four graduated with a pass.
The institution will also award 162 PhDs, 242 master’s degrees, and 61 postgraduate diplomas.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for boosting the institution’s monthly subvention from ₦260 million to ₦410 million, which has helped clear arrears staff pay and allowances.
The University’s financial success can be attributed to an increase in monthly subventions from ₦260m to ₦410m, which helped pay for unpaid salaries and allowances. Staff morale is high because employees are highly motivated. This has helped to keep the academic calendar stable,” he noted.
