Ahmed Lawan, the former president of the Senate, have denied rumors that he intends to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), calling them untrue and unfounded.
Representing the Yobe North Senatorial District, Lawan reaffirmed his steadfast devotion to the APC, which he has been a part of since its founding.
The former Senate President maintained his allegiance to the ruling party in a statement released on Sunday by his Media Adviser, Ezrel Tabiowo, which refuted posters and false stories that connected him to the SDP.
“Misleading rumors and posters that have been going around suggesting that Senator Ahmad Lawan, the President of the 9th Senate and Distinguished Senator for Yobe North, is leaving the APC for the SDP have caught the notice of the Office of Senator Lawan.
We would want to declare unequivocally that these reports are completely untrue, unfounded, and unfair. Since the All Progressives Congress (APC) was founded, Senator Ahmad Lawan has proudly supported and been a part of it. He is still a staunch and devoted member of the party. The statement stated that he is still a major supporter of the APC and will keep working with the administration and the party to make sure their shared objectives are met.
During his 25-year political career, Lawan has never switched parties, a fact that he utilized to remind the public of his longstanding political consistency.

For the record, Senator Ahmad Lawan is one of the few Nigerian lawmakers with a perfect record of defection during his distinguished 25-year presence in the National Assembly. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1999 and then, in 2007, to the Senate on the platform of the All People’s Party (APP), which subsequently changed its name to the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP). On February 6, 2013, three minority parties, including the ANPP, united to form the APC, the statement continued.
Further reaffirming his backing for Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni and President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Lawan called their leadership transformative and progressive.
“Senator Lawan is a strong believer in the APC’s vision and principles, and he continues to work ceaselessly with other party leaders and members to strengthen the party and advance its agenda for the betterment of our nation,” he stated.
Additionally, he states that he fully supports the changes and programs of the administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He is confident in the administration’s resolve to change Nigeria and solve its problems.
