Reports that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer necessary for admission to Nigerian postsecondary institutions were rejected by the Federal Government on Thursday as untrue and deceptive.
Education Minister Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa called the publication “baseless and entirely fabricated” in a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Education through its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade. He emphasized that the Ministry never issued or approved any such announcement.
The Minister asserts that JAMB is still the only legally recognized organization with the ability to administer entrance exams and manage admissions to all of the nation’s postsecondary educational institutions.
For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. Alausa stated that JAMB is still the legally authorized and statutory organization in charge of organizing admissions to all Nigerian postsecondary institutions and administering entrance exams.
“Any information to the contrary should be completely ignored, and the established admissions procedures through JAMB remain fully operational.”
In order to preserve openness, equity, and merit in Nigeria’s tertiary education admissions system, the Minister reiterated the Ministry’s steadfast collaboration with JAMB and other pertinent organizations, adding that the Federal Government is dedicated to preserving the process’s integrity.

The statement further said, “The Federal Ministry of Education reiterates that the existing role of JAMB has not changed and remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework.”
