In the case confirming Sunday Udeh-Okoye as national secretary, the PDP has rejected claims of forgery and blamed the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the incident.
Reports state that the PDP made this announcement in response to a court decision that ordered a probe of its primary election standards due to claims of forgery.
Remember how Sunday Udeh-Okoye and Samuel Anyanwu have been vying for the role of national secretary during the PDP’s leadership crisis?
Udeh-Okoye was selected by the party’s southeast zonal executive committee to succeed Anyanwu, who was elected PDP governor of Imo state in 2023.
Courts had granted Anyanwu injunctions to prevent his dismissal.
But in December 2024, Ridwan Abdullahi, the appeal court judge, ruled that the high court’s ruling that had barred Anyanwu’s removal was without merit.
In a recent development, a magistrate court in Abuja mandated the police look into claims that party executives used falsified documents before the court of appeal hearing.
Mike Iheanaetu, a member of the PDP, petitioned the court for the injunction.

In response to the court decision, PDP spokeswoman Debo Ologunagba emphasized that a senior APC official is accountable for the crisis and called the forgery accusation “sensational and misleading.”
According to the statement, “Our party is shocked by the level of desperation being displayed by these individuals, reportedly with the support of a particular top official in the APC administration who had on multiple occasions vowed to destroy the PDP in order to enable the APC to establishment a totalitarian and oppressive one-party system in our country to the resentment and detriment of Nigerians.”
Even though the Supreme Court and other higher-ranking courts have declared that matters pertaining to the nomination of candidates for elections are solely the internal affairs of political parties and are outside the purview of the courts, our party is horrified by the heinous and disgusting attempt by these desperate individuals to involve the police and an Abuja magistrate court in the party’s internal affairs.
