The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has denied rumors that it has chosen Peter Obi to be its nominee for president in the general election of 2027.

According to the party, the claims were “just rumors and a figment of the peddlers’ imaginations.”

“The ZLP National Publicity Secretary, Khalid Arewa, clarified in a statement issued Sunday night in Abuja that the party had not made any such decision and that the reports were untrue.”

Following allegations that the party had given Obi a free ticket to the 2027 elections, the clarification was made.

Young Nigerians supported Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the general election of 2023, and he became a huge favorite. In the election, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu won, and he finished as the second runner-up. Rumor has recently circulated that Obi is trying to increase his chances of winning the 2027 election by assembling a coalition with other opposition groups.

But the ZLP has disassociated itself from any support for Obi and from any talk about the upcoming election cycle.

“ZLP wishes to address a misleading publication circulating on various social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), which falsely attributes to our party an offer of a free ticket to Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential election,” the party said in its statement.
