After Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, passes away, Senator Rashidi Ladoje, a former governor of Oyo State, is anticipated to become the next Olubadan.
As previously said, over a year after ascending to the throne, Oba Olakulehin died on Monday, July 7, at the age of 90.
The rotational succession system, which switches the Olubadan stool between the two governing lines—Balogun (military) and Egbe Agba (civil)—is anticipated to produce a new Olubadan in the days after his passing.
The Egbe Agba line, of which Ladoja is currently the most senior High Chief, is anticipated to provide the next king after the late Olakulehin ascended from the Balogun line.
Ladoja, who is 80 years old, was crowned the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland in August 2024, making him the next in line for the throne, as was previously mentioned.
There was nothing wrong with taking the throne in the Olubadan family, Ladoja said when he was given his beaded crown and given the title of Oba. All other Obas were subjects and advisors, he emphasized, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland was still the only paramount king in the ancient metropolis.
