Friends of the late Kitan Oyesiku have called on the Ogun State government, state police command, relevant security agencies and justice stakeholders to step up efforts and apprehend her killers and ensure they are brought to justice.
Late Kitan Oyesiku was a familiar face in the media circuit, having worked with Ogun State Television (OGTV) before retirement.
She was shot dead in cold blood with her security guard at her home in Kobape area of Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said on Sunday that her corpse was found inside her apartment while that of the security guard was found inside the security post.
Her car was also missing, she added, and an investigation had been launched.
Following the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni on Monday, visited the scene of the incident for an on-the-spot assessment and to personally assess the progress of ongoing investigative efforts.
Ojajuni toured the facility and detectives working the case briefed him during the visit.
He reiterated the Command’s resolve to leave no stone unturned in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that the perpetrators are identified, apprehended and brought to justice.
The Police boss said the vehicle, Lexus RX300, which was earlier reported missing from the residence was recovered by police operatives during the night hours operation.
The command assured the public that intensive investigation is underway, with all resources being used to track down the perpetrators.
However, friend of the retired broadcast journalist, in a statement signed by Oluwaseun Boye on Wednesday said the deceased was a peace loving and kind hearted woman, who did not deserve such a painful death.
They argued that her murder must not be swept under the carpet saying, “Justice must not only be done, but must be seen to be done. Thus, bringing the perpetrators to justice will reassure the public that no life is insignificant and that criminal acts of this nature will not go unpunished.”
They also commended the Ogun State Police Command for the measures taken so far in the probe and urged them to sustain the momentum until every person connected with the heinous crime is identified, arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
Part of the statement reads: “In the wake of our public appeal yesterday calling on anyone with useful information to come forward, we, the Friends of Kitan Oyesiku, once again call on the Ogun State Government, the Ogun State Police Command, and all relevant security and justice stakeholders to redouble efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic killing of our dear friend, Kitan Oyesiku.
“Kitan was a peaceful woman, with a kind heart and a compassionate spirit, whose life was taken from her in a cruel, senseless way. She didn’t deserve such a terrible death. “Her death has devastated all who knew her, her family and friends.
“We call on the Ogun State Government and all relevant authorities not to let Kitan’s murder be swept under the carpet. Justice must not only be done, but must be seen to be done. Bringing the criminals to justice will rebuild confidence in the people that no life is insignificant and that crimes of this type will not go unpunished.
We also reiterate our call for members of the public: If you know something, say something. “Any credible information, no matter how small, could be the break investigators need to get justice for Kitan.”
However, the deceased’s friends expressed hope that truth will prevail and all those behind the horrific act will be brought to book.
