Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Saturday, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of five police officers who tragically lost their lives while returning from an official assignment in Edo State.
“We are here not for celebrations but for condolence,” Ganduje said, addressing the families, the Inspector General of Police, and the people of Kano. “This sad incident occurred two weeks ago, and it’s essential we come together to comfort those affected.”
He acknowledged the enormity of the loss, highlighting that five officers died instantly, while 10 others sustained injuries.
“I decided to come down to Bichi because of the enormity of the death, and because the officers gallantly died in active national service,” he explained. Recognizing Bichi’s status, Ganduje added, “As far as I’m concerned, Bichi has a First Class Emir.”
In a gesture of support, Ganduje donated N2 million to each of the five families who lost loved ones, while the 10 injured officers received N1 million each.
Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Appropriation, accompanied Ganduje and shared his emotional response to the incident. “This tragedy personally touched me,” Abubakar said. “As a member of my Federal Constituency, Bichi, I feel the pain of those who died and left their families behind; it’s like losing my own family.”
