Governor Bala Mohammed has been urged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Bauchi State to change his mind about opposing President Bola Tinubu’s suggested tax reforms. The National Assembly’s current Tax Reform Bills, according to the party, are a move in the right direction toward strengthening Nigeria’s economy and promoting resource justice among the states.
At a news conference in Bauchi, Adamu Aliyu Jallah, the APC’s publicity secretary, stated that if the legislation were enacted, they would increase economic productivity, improve tax production, and put the nation in a position for long-term progress.
“Nigeria must adopt progressive taxation policies in order to compete favorably with developing nations,” Jallah remarked in response to Governor Mohammed’s criticism of the measures. Tax reform is a widely accepted strategy for increasing government revenue and addressing the needs of the populace; it is not a new idea. Rather than criticizing the laws directly, the governor ought to have studied them and, if he found any problems, actively engaged the appropriate authorities.
Governor Mohammed was also charged by the APC with misusing federal monies that were given to Bauchi State during the Tinubu administration. Even with N144 billion in Federation Account Allocations, other statutory money, and palliatives, Jallah asserted that there isn’t much evidence of concrete development initiatives.
The state’s lack of noticeable progress raises questions about transparency and financial accountability, Jallah said, demanding that the governor “account for all the funds received during this administration.”
The APC spokesperson went on to attack the governor’s privatization plan, claiming that it was crafted to favor a small number of people.

The state administration declared its intention to privatize a number of businesses, citing increased efficiency and productivity as justification. But rather of reviving these businesses to produce jobs and income for the state, they were given to the governor’s allies. In the meantime, some workers in the state have not received their salaries for up to three years, and others have been delayed for months,” Jallah said.
In order to genuinely benefit the people of Bauchi State, the APC encouraged Governor Mohammed to prioritize accountability in government and address long-standing wage issues.
