On Sunday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde called the death of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, Soun of Ogbomosoland, as a major loss to the Ogbomoso kingdom, Oyo State, and humanity in general.

The governor, who expressed his condolences on the death of the country’s most powerful traditional ruler, hailed him as a “quintessential monarch,” a “man of peace,” and a “passionate advocate of progress.”

He sent his condolences to the monarch’s immediate family, the people of Ogbomoso, and the Obas of Oyo State.

The governor said Oba Oyewumi used his wealth of expertise to improve Ogbomosoland throughout the years, speaking via his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Taiwo Adisa.

“I received the news of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, the Soun of Ogbomosoland’s departure unto glory with shock,” he said.

“Though Kabiyesi lived to reach 95 years old, his death at this time is still a significant loss to the state and traditional institutions, because he has left a void not only in Ogbomosoland, but throughout the state and country.”

“We had a quintessential monarch in Kabiyesi, who cherished and worked for peace and development. Oba Oyewumi’s reign on the throne of his forefathers left an indelible mark on Ogbomosoland and, by extension, Oyo State.

“On behalf of the people and government of Oyo State, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the departed monarch’s immediate family as well as the people of Ogbomosoland.”

“I also express my condolences to the Obas of Oyo State, who have lost a significant member in Oba Oyewumi.”
