The Chairman of Ojana New Area, Pastor Taiwo Taiwo, was on Sunday night rescued from the hands of kidnappers by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command who foiled an attempt to abduct him.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at Owo town in Owo Local Government Area of the state.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a statement on Monday, adding that the clash followed an attempt by a six-man gang of kidnappers to abduct the clergyman in the area.
The statement said the incident occurred at approximately 7:05 p.m. when the command received a distress call regarding criminal activity.
The PPRO said the assailants abandoned their plans later, which led to the rescue of the intended victim and his family.
“At about 7:05 p.m., when the Police received a distress call indicating that a six-man armed kidnapping gang had stormed the residence of Pastor Taiwo Taiwo, Chairman of Ojana New Area, Owo, with the intention of abducting him
“The Divisional Police Officer, B Division, Owo, immediately responded to the tip-off and mobilised a patrol team to the scene.
When the operatives arrived, they were met with armed attackers and a gun battle ensued.
The police operatives’ tactical response and determination were superior and thus the criminals retreated into the surrounding bush, abandoning their plan.
“The targeted victim and family members were safely rescued and unharmed and were then moved to a safer location for better security and protection”.
