Ten people have been killed in a traffic collision on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway, according to Kabir Nadabo, the sector commander for the Federal Road Safety Corps, or FRSC, in Kaduna state.

He clarified that the accident occurred on Thursday in Kasari village along the expressway, where a truck with the registration number SMK 141XN and a Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number GDW190XA collided head-on.

The rescue was carried out by a combined team of rescue operatives from RS1.114 Zhipe, RS1.16B Dutse Outpost, some Nigerian Police Force officers, and some military people, he added.

A preliminary inquiry found 16 people implicated, including 8 men and 8 women, according to Nadabo.

Ten people have already perished, according to the sector commander, after the injured passengers passed away at the hospital.

He said that reckless driving and wrongful overtaking were determined to be the cause of the traffic accident.

He added that the impact of the accident caused the bus to catch fire, but the people inside the truck were unharmed.

According to Nadabo, the command was informed of the very sad news. He emphasized that the corps will not compromise on its mission, but rather will work harder to involve transport unions and keep up its active public awareness campaigns about safe driving practices and basic road etiquette.

He gave his word that FRSC Kaduna would keep contacting the appropriate parties in the transportation sector to warn drivers against road vices.
