Sensitization and re-strategizing are needed to combat the threat of human trafficking in Nigeria, according to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.

The Minister, Sadiya Umar Farouq, made the plea at a Roost Foundation event in Abuja on the prevention of human trafficking, irregular migration, sexual and gender-based violence.

The Minister, who was represented by the Ministry’s Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Hajjarra A.T Ahmed, noted that human trafficking is a complicated issue that should be tackled in a way that can be harnessed.

According to her, all hands must be on deck in order to continue making progress in the fight against the menace.

“However, we must do more than talk, as has been emphasized often here, and it is about action.” We must all vow to contribute our fair share, both professionally and personally.”

“We are not resting on our laurels as a Ministry.” We are doing everything we can to ensure that our relevant agencies have enough support and money to carry out their responsibilities properly.” Ahmed emphasized his point.

Julie Okah, the Executive Chairman, stated that the Town Hall was set up to allow for serious discussion of national issues.

“I’m sure you’ll agree that these problems have dominated the post-Covid-19 lockdown period. Indeed, the lockdown aggravated a slew of societal issues, particularly domestic violence, such as intimate partner violence, child abuse, Sodomy, rape, and other heinous acts,” Okah noted.
