If President Bola Tinubu had received a National Award, Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress’ (AAC) 2023 presidential candidate, has stated that he would have filed a lawsuit against him.
The president announced the official list of 102 2025 Democracy Day National Honors recipients on Thursday, according to Naija News. These individuals include both living and deceased Nigerians who have made contributions to the nation’s democratic journey.
Some Nigerians, however, were upset that Sowore and Dele Momodu, the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were left off the list of recipients.
On Friday, the politician-turned-activist wrote on his official Facebook page that he would have turned down the honor.
In addition to refusing the reward, Sowore threatened to sue Tinubu for defamation.
According to his writing, “I would not only reject and denounce the award but also take definitive legal action for defamation if I were mistakenly included by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his ‘National Honour” list.”

Other headlines Sowore has called the current coalition discussions meaningless and devoid of intellectual depth and direction.
As several players set themselves up for the upcoming presidential contest, Sowore’s remarks were said to coincide with a rising political realignment.
The opposition front has been led by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar for 2023.
But in an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sowore cautioned Nigerians that the present coalition efforts are ideologically misguided and will only serve to bolster rather than undermine President Bola Tinubu’s reelection campaign.
