Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has bemoaned the supposed exclusion from Senate proceedings.
According to reports, Natasha accused Ireti Kingibe, the chairman of the Committee on Women Affairs, of excluding her from some committee activities during her speech during the committee defense.
The member expressed worry over an invitation to attend the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) event in New York, citing the low representation of women in the Senate.
“I was told about the invitation and instructed to submit my passport for processing,” Natasha said.
The senator claims that even though she responded within three hours, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs later informed her that her tardiness prevented her from attending.
Natasha emphasized her disconnection from the process by questioning the lack of cooperation and coordination among female senators in relation to a major international women’s event.
I first learned about the event yesterday at 1:00 pm, and I answered right away with my passport,” she stated. I reacted right away, but I was later informed that I was too late and would not be going.
“Especially when it comes to an event that is centered around the advancement of women, I shouldn’t be treated any differently than other women.”
