The government of Osun State has denied allegations that there was a shortage of medical staff at Iwo General Hospital.
Dr. Akindele Adekunle, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s Special Adviser on Public Health, reportedly said as much on Friday.
Two physicians and two nurses were sent to the general hospital, Adekunle explained, and they have been providing high-quality medical care there.
THURIST-Nigeria, an advocacy group, made a false accusation about the hospital’s staff, according to the Governor’s Public Health Advisor.
“Two doctors were sent to Iwo General Hospital to replace a doctor who had been serving the hospital for years. This was a common occurrence. The fact that one of the two hospital physicians who was transferred to Iwo General Hospital is a Level-17 officer with extensive experience in providing medical care highlights how important this administration views the hospital.
Likewise, Iwo General Hospital lost two nurses to transfer, and they were promptly replaced. “We must stress that staff changes are common in all government structures because they guarantee that the people receive the services that are funded by the public coffers,” he stated.
Adekunle pointed out that the state’s health sector was being impacted by physicians migrating to Western nations, but he also pointed out that the State Government was using President Bola Tinubu’s decision to raise the retirement age for doctors to help fill the staffing need.

President Bola Tinubu recently signed legislation raising the retirement age of medical personnel by five years in order to allow the nation, including Osun, to make use of the human resources in the health sector to meet the needs of its citizens. This is because of the serious challenge posed by the growing number of medical personnel leaving Nigeria for other countries.
“Despite this fact, Osun State is considering the possibility of periodically replacing certain employees. The public should be reassured that this is a continuous endeavor that will attract additional human resources for the provision of healthcare services,” he said.
All secondary health facilities in the state will have their infrastructure upgraded, according to Governor Adeleke’s assistant.
He reaffirmed the governor’s dedication to offering inhabitants and natives of the state high-quality healthcare.
I am happy to notify the public, especially the Osun people, that Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the complete overhaul of the physical infrastructures of secondary health facilities, including Iwo General Hospital, as part of ongoing efforts to improve the infrastructures of our healthcare facilities.

Like the PHCs, Iwo General Hospital and others will undergo rehabilitation, with the infrastructure being upgraded to contemporary standards and some cutting-edge equipment added to support efficient healthcare delivery. After completing a bill of quantities (BOQ) and other expert evaluations, work will start at the many secondary facilities that are slated for rehabilitation in a few weeks.
“This supports the administration’s efforts to provide high-quality healthcare, and we ask for patience from the public.” We’re taking practical measures to address the massive health sector corruption that this administration has left behind and guarantee that the public’s healthcare requirements are satisfied,” he said.
