A splinter group called Team New Nigeria (TNN) allegedly swamped Kano with campaign posters of former President Goodluck Jonathan, prompting the APC to distance itself from the party.
At every level of the APC, the ruling party maintained that the group did not originate from inside its ranks and that its members were unknown.
The TNN’s announcement that its supporters were departing the ruling party to start a new political party was followed by the refutation five days later.

The national president of the group, Modibbo Farakwai, stated that they were aiming to reach at least 26 million voters nationwide. The streets of Kano were swamped with posters showing Jonathan standing for office in 2027 on Thursday, which sparked rumors that he would get back into politics.
The APC’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, responded by saying that the fact that Jonathan’s campaign posters were printed and distributed even though it was known that he was not a card-carrying member was more proof that the TNN was never affiliated with the APC.
I shall refrain from making any assumptions. I view this group as amorphous, and the APC is unaware of it. The fact that former President Goodluck Jonathan was not an APC member would have been obvious to them if they were true APC members, Duru said.
