Joy Ogah, a teenage girl, has taken Vice President Kashim Shettima’s place for the day.
According to reports, the action aims to encourage female participation and mentorship.
During a courtesy visit by a PLAN International delegation headed by Helen Idiong, its Director of Program, Quality and Innovation, the motivational event was held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking to the delegation, Shettima reiterated the Tinubu-led government’s dedication to promoting gender equality and education for girls throughout Nigeria.
He emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s steadfast dedication to guaranteeing that all Nigerian girls have equitable access to high-quality education.
“You have an ally you can believe in and invest your trust in in President Bola Tinubu,” he added, emphasizing that the administration’s initiatives, such as the school food program, are still essential to keeping kids in school, particularly girls.
Shettima also praised Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, as a brilliant example of what a girl child can do if given the opportunity.
He remarked, “The First Lady is a symbol of how a girl-child who is given the right amount of empowerment and support can grow into a great leader.”
On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I would want to reassure you that this administration is gender-neutral. We support inclusion. We cannot expect to develop as a country if we deny half of our citizens the right to vote.
Following his speech, Shettima asked Joy Ogah to take his place, thereby taking the vice presidential function for the day.
Ogah gave a fervent speech from the nation’s second-highest office, urging cooperation to improve the rights and educational opportunities of Nigerian girls.
“We must make investments in inclusive, safe education for all Nigerian children. Peace is achievable when girls are safeguarded,” she said.
Ogah called on government organizations, development partners, and people to collaborate strategically in addressing the obstacles to education, citing the concerning data that 10.5 million Nigerian children are not attending school, with more than 60% of them being girls.
