Justice Azuka, the late lawmaker who served in Anambra State’s Onitsha North 1 Constituency, will be buried on Saturday, February 15, 2025, according to a Tuesday announcement from his family.
On December 24, 2024, Azuka was reportedly kidnapped in Onitsha along Ugwunaobankpa Road while she was making her way home for Christmas. His decaying remains was found early on February 6, 2025, next to the Second Niger Bridge.
The win of Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 election was declared invalid by a judicial decision, and Azuka, a leader of the Labour Party, regained his mandate.

Funeral Plans
The funeral liturgy will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Awka Road, Onitsha, and the deceased will be buried in his family home in Ugwunaobankpa, Onitsha, according to a burial announcement signed by Chinyelugo Azuka, the head of the Azuka family.
The following is a portion of the burial poster: “Burning Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Awka Road, Onitsha, by 11 am on Saturday, February 15, 2025.” He will be laid to rest at Onitsha Stadium by 10:30 a.m.

In his honor, the Anambra State House of Assembly will also have a farewell session at the Hallowed Chambers in Awka on Friday, February 14.

Azuka served as the House Committee on CSO Establishments and Labour Matters’ Chairman and the House Committee on Public Petitions’ Deputy Chairman until his untimely death.

Azuka was characterized as a committed and selfless lawmaker by Somtochukwu Udeze, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, during Tuesday’s session.

“His devotion to duty and commitment were always undeniable.” He was constantly willing to learn and help. According to Udeze, he was an integral part of the spirit of these hallowed chambers.
