The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, in Kwara State, has commenced an indefinite strike action, demanding implementation of their upwardly reviewed salary structure by the state government.
The chairman of the Union, Habeeb Agboola, in an interaction with newsmen in Ilorin, lamented that the salary structure has been reviewed 15 years ago during Governor Bukola Saraki’s administration but successive governments refused to do the needful.
Agboola disclosed that the strike action will continue and no courts will be opened for operation until government of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq implements the agreement contained in the Consolidated Judiciary Salary structure and make judicial workers happy.
He added that the Union is tired of being paid with old salary scale that is not commensurate with the work load.
In another reaction, the Ilorin Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Chapter chairman, Barrister Kosemani, said the step taken by the JUSUN to commence strike action is lawful, adding that the government should negotiate with the association for work to resume.
He declared that, “the strike action is a strong and legitimate tool to register their displeasure,” adding that the JUSUN has written letters to the government and other appropriate authorities which have neither been acknowledged, nor attended to, hence, the reason for the strike.
