For sharing offensive videos on TikTok, two Nigerian users, Ahmad Isa and Maryam Musa, received prison sentences.
Because they violated the state’s moral and religious sensibilities, Ahmad Isa and Maryam Musa were taken into custody by the Kano State censorship board.

In a Kano Magistrate court, the state’s attorney, Barr. Garzali Maigari, arraigned them for publishing illegal content and engaging in criminal conspiracy.
The TikTokers admitted to the charges and were given a one-year jail sentence each, with the possibility of a N100,000 fine.
They were also cautioned by Hadiza Muhammad Hassan, the magistrate, to behave well.
In Kano, TikTokers have previously encountered legal problems. In February 2024, Murja Kunya was arrested by the Kano Hisbah Board and placed under remand in prison on charges of engaging in immoral activities.
G-Fresh al-Amin, another well-known TikToker, was detained in June 2024 on suspicion of posting offensive content online.
