During a stop-and-search operation on Monday, November 24, 2025, the Nigerian Army seized a large shipment of what seemed to be cannabis from a suspect in Obajana, in the Lokoja Local Government Area.
Troops of 12 Brigade claim that this is a continuation of the army’s continued efforts to restrict criminal elements’ freedom of action and obstruct the flow of illegal substances, which regularly contribute to the growth of banditry and other violent crimes throughout the state.
This was announced to the public in a news release by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the acting assistant director of Army Public Relations 12 Brigade, on the Nigerian Army’s X account (previously Twitter).
The operation took place on November 24, 2025, when soldiers stationed at Agbede Response Area performed a normal stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU, according to Lieutenant Abdullahi, who wrote that.
Further suspicion was raised when a branded police cap and belt were discovered on the dashboard of the car, which was being driven by Mr. Johnson Ayo.
“After a thorough search of the vehicle, ten sacks of Cannabis sativa weighing 108.8 kilograms were found concealed in the car,” he said.
According to preliminary research, this kind of widespread drug trafficking not only provides financial support to criminal organizations but also feeds the cycle of events that frequently leads to banditry in the state and its environs.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the state has received the suspect and the recovered exhibits for additional investigation and appropriate action.
