Umar Farouk, the National Secretary of the Labour Party, which is loyal to Julius Abure, the factional leader, has denied rumors that Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, would run for president in 2027.
According to reports, Peter Obi stated that he was a member of the Labour Party and that his name would appear on the ballot in 2027 just hours prior.
Farouk stated in an interview with Trust TV on Thursday that Peter would not run for office in 2027 and was just content with his current level of media attention.
Peter Obi turned down the Labour Party’s offer of the presidential ticket, Farouk claims.
Peter Obi’s current political affiliation was also questioned by the LP National Secretary, who claimed that his recent actions had raised doubts about his party affiliation.
“I can assure you that Obi will not run for president,” he stated. Obi enjoys being in the spotlight, but he has no interest in 2027. He turned down our offer of a presidential ticket.
“Observe the situation; what is he doing in ADC? What makes him a member of the PDP? Which political party is he a member of? Where is he going to receive the ticket? Farouk inquired.
Farouk went on to say that the opposition parties had lost their will to oppose the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“When you look at those contesting with Tinubu, you see the opponents in every match,” he said. Do these people actually oppose each other? Even with penalties, some players will score and some will miss them, unless the referee wants to give them penalties altogether.
“I say it here that for us in the Labour Party we do not have any reason for anyone to accuse the APC of interfering in our internal crisis,” he said, adding that the APC should not be held responsible for the crisis inside opposition groups.
