With political intervention, the protracted impasse between former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and thirty-two members of the Lagos State House of Assembly might soon be addressed.
According to an unnamed source close to President Bola Tinubu and the Assembly who talked to BusinessDay, the President did not support Obasa’s impeachment on January 13, 2025.
It was understood that when Obasa was impeached and Mojisola Meranda was elected as the first female Speaker of the House, the Lagos Assembly was enmeshed in a leadership struggle.
When Nigeria Police and Department of State Services (DSS) agents locked down the Speaker’s office on Monday, the situation became more heated and parliamentary staff protested.
The insider stated, “They disregarded Baba,” in reference to the crisis. He was not carried by them. Baba wishes Obasa was returned because he is unhappy that he was taken away.
