Following the recent large-scale political defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), former Minister of Information Lai Mohammed has rejected claims that Nigeria is moving toward being a one-party state.
He claims that because the current situation is not the first time Nigeria has seen a large-scale transfer of politicians from one party to another, Nigerians are bad historians.
Mohammed reportedly made the submission while giving a speech at Achievers University in Ondo State’s convocation lecture on Friday.
According to the former Minsiter, concerns about a one-party state are completely baseless.
“History is a very poor subject for Nigerians.” This is not the first time that a large number of people have switched political parties. It is a component of democracy and prosperity, he stated.
According to earlier reports, the former Information Minister also reaffirmed his allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing that he purposefully avoided the spotlight.
Having been at the forefront of government operations in the past, he continued, “I fully support the current administration, but whatever he needs to do now, he passes it through the back doors.”
“I am a very devoted APC member.
“I fully support this administration. However, I’ve done my part on the front lines. I’ll use the rear channels for whatever I have to do right now.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to have served as minister for eight years, making me the longest-serving minister in this nation’s history,” he remarked.
