Legendary American music executive Clive Davis has died at the age of 94.
It was learned that Davis, who discovered and helped shape some of the most iconic voices in the American music industry, died at his New York City home on Monday.
Davis’s family also confirmed his death in a statement that said the deceased had recently been hospitalised in New York for an upper respiratory infection.
Davis will be sorely missed and his love will live on in the hearts of the family for the rest of their lives, the family said.
“To the world,” the statement continued, “our father was the iconic music legend whose vision, instincts and relentless pursuit of excellence created the soundtrack of so many lives.
“He found, mentored and championed the greatest artists in the history of modern music, making an indelible mark on culture that will last for generations.
“To Clive’s family, he was Dad and Granddaddy, the rock at the center of our lives, the well of wisdom, strength, encouragement and unconditional love. He had remarkable professional achievements but he never forgot what mattered most – the people he loved.
“Family was Clive’s greatest pride and deepest joy through every chapter of his remarkable life. Today we celebrate not just a towering figure whose influence changed music forever but the man who led our family with grace, generosity and kindness. “We will miss him dearly, cherish him in our hearts forever and have his love with us for the rest of our lives.
The music executive had previously dealt with health issues, including a diagnosis of Bell’s palsy in 2021. Despite those setbacks he remained busy at work in the music industry into his nineties.
Davis, whose career spanned more than 60 years, cemented his reputation as one of the most influential executives in modern music history. He won five Grammy Awards during his illustrious career.
