Margaret Obi, a British woman who was born in Nigeria, has been appointed to the position of High Court Judge in England and Wales.
Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and a presidential contender for the Labour Party, revealed this while congratulating Margaret on her appointment to the English and Welsh High Court.
Mrs. Obi is the first African-born person to be appointed as a High Court Judge in England and Wales. Obi called her elevation historic in a post on X on Friday titled “Celebrating Excellence Beyond Borders.”
He commended her career path, pointing out that her seven years of judicial service and more than 27 years of legal practice demonstrate “hard work, integrity, and professional excellence.”
Obi also made it clear that Mrs. Margaret Obi is not his wife, even though their names are similar. He clarified that Mrs. Margaret Peter-Obi is his wife’s official name.
