Former Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle’s Senior Special Assistant Lawal Idris has called his former boss’s administration a failure.
He bemoaned the political changes, economic stagnation, uncertainty, and chaos that characterized Matawalle’s reign.
He claims that his former principal paid civil servants ₦7000 even though he was unable to pay the then-minimum wage of ₦30,000.
Idris made this statement in response to Yusuf Idris Gusau, a factional All Progressives Congress (APC) Publicity Secretary in the State, who claimed that Gov. Dauda Lawal’s payment of the eagerly anticipated ₦70,000.00 minimum wage was a ruse to trick civil servants into believing he is an action governor who cares about their well-being.
He maintained that the APC is jealous of the accomplishments made by Governor Lawal in his meager two years in service, which, in his opinion, exceeded the four years of the most recent APC-led administration under Matawalle.
He claims that the APC is still moping about losing the 2023 gubernatorial election.
Idris wrote on behalf of the Zamfara Rescue Movement, saying, “It is a purposeful distortion of [truth] to claim that the governor is working hard, especially in implementing the minimum wage to civil servants, as a ‘deceit’ to win their support.”
“It is unpatriotic and counterproductive to misrepresent the facts and attempt to incite citizens against the government they overwhelmingly elected to office and continue to support.”
“As the government works to give citizens the benefits of democracy, partisan politics should be put aside.
This is what APC didn’t comprehend. Bitter politics have no place in Zamfara State, which is why the party was rejected by the populace in the 2023 gubernatorial election and why it continues to be divided in the state with no clear path forward.
“The APC government of Bello Matawalle was unable to pay the minimum wage of N30,000.00, so he gave civil personnel a monthly payment of N7000.00 instead.
Civil servants’ potential and productivity, which are crucial for determining economic growth and wealth, were severely impacted by their demoralization and poverty.

Due to a lack of initiative and strategic management of limited resources, promotions, trainings for human capital development, and other benefits were delayed, and workers and pensioners were equally owed months’ worth of salaries and pensions despite this pitiful salary.
The good citizens of Zamfara State were forced to remove the APC’s incumbent governor, Bello Matawalle, due to the state’s depressing and unstable atmosphere.
“The gloomy times of political unrest, economic stagnation, insecurity, and governmental ambiguity are past for the people of Zamfara.
“All benefits to former State House of Assembly members were settled, and funds that the Matawalle administration had withheld for two years from the state’s ministries, departments, and agencies were released.”
