In the letter, the APC claimed that some civil servants in the State were paid far below the approved N70,000 national minimum wage benchmark, as monthly salaries.
In the letter signed by Uche Aguoru, Publicity Secretary, APC, Abia State chapter, the party also took a swipe at the delay in the implementation of the allowance increase promised the members of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, serving in the State, even as it urged the Governor to do something about the unpaid gratuity of pensioners.
The party said:
“Also disappointing was the widely publicized announcement by your administration over a year ago to increase the monthly allowance of NYSC members serving in the State to N50,000.

However, reacting to the APC letter, the leadership of the Labour Party, LP, in Abia State, accused the broom party of circulating desperate and blatant lies against Governor Otti’s administration on the welfare of civil servants and pensioners.
The LP, through its Publicity Secretary in the State, Iroegbu Emenike, said the days of pensioners dying in queue for their pension were over in the State.
The LP stated that the present APC in the State were among those who were alleged to have set the State backward for almost 30 years before Governor Alex Otti came on board, adding that the APC did not have the face to write such an open letter to Governor Otti.
LP said workers are receiving their monthly salaries and retirees are receiving their monthly pensions.
The LP condemned the APC for the delay in the execution of the monthly allowance promises to the NYSC members, stating that the broom party failed to “understand that pronouncements by a Governor are followed by administrative procedures and policies before full implementation.”
