Christopher Musa, the Minister of Defense, has praised the Ministry of Interior for its part in maintaining the country’s internal security.

When Musa visited Olubunmi Tunji, the interior minister, at his Abuja office, he expressed his approval.

The two got together to talk about the security measures that need be implemented to guarantee a safe Nigeria.

Tunji-Ojo acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s strong faith in the minister and thanked the head of defense for the visit.

“This visit demonstrates that you are applying your experience and that collaboration between internal and external security agencies is necessary to unite them.

The military wouldn’t be overburdened if the internal agencies took the necessary action since our ideas are in sync and we recognize that security is a combination of internal and external factors.

He stated, “We have no choice but to cooperate; working in silence is never in the nation’s best interests because this is not the time to be territorial.”

He claimed that although Nigeria’s security issues were far from the worst, perception and exaggeration had been an issue.

“A nation is safe when its borders are secure. You cannot ensure the security of a country if you are unable to secure your borders.

“I want the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to be a specialized organization that adheres to its mandate rather than doing what the police do.

“We are here to complement and offer support to ensure there is a robust handshake between the agencies, not to compete with the police or military,” stated Tunji-Ojo.

According to the minister, improving data management is essential to strengthening security services’ activities.

Tunji-Ojo agreed that an interministerial committee was necessary to combine the two ministries into one cohesive whole.

The minister stated, “We must work against the communication gap and block all lines of division because we know that performance and safety are important to Nigerians.”

In order to make Nigeria safer, he ordered the leaders of paramilitary organizations to collaborate closely with sister organizations.

“I commend the ministry for the great work done because security is critical to the development of Nigeria because without security there is no development,” Musa stated.

He pointed out that since no organization has a monopoly on information, efficient cooperation is essential.

“There will be a lot of results if we keep working together, and once I return, we will collaborate closely.”

“It’s critical that the defense and interior departments use technology to share intelligence.

He stated, “The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has a lot to do with intelligence because we can get information from a lot of the inmates.”

The head of defense suggested creating a combined technical council with representatives from both internal and external organizations to discuss national security issues on a quarterly basis.

He added that a deeper partnership will improve public safety and continued to advocate for a comprehensive database between the two organizations.

We need to put in more effort because many nations are dealing with asymmetrical conflict, which does not deter visitors. Why aren’t they blacklisting them?

“We cannot continue to lose our men in an effort to protect the country, and paramilitary agencies are equally facing these criminals directly if you are not well prepared,” he stated.
