Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Chairman and CEO Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu.

Among other credentials, Engr. Ramat, 39, holds a PhD in Strategic Management and is an electrical engineer and administrator.

Additionally, President Tinubu nominated two additional NERC commissioners. Consumer Affairs Commissioner Mr. Abubakar Yusuf and Finance and Management Services Commissioner Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun.

Bayo Onanuga, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, stated in a statement on Thursday that Senate confirmation is required for all appointments.

In order to prevent a leadership hole in the crucial regulatory agency, Bayo added, the president instructed Engr. Ramat to take over in an acting capacity until the Senate vetted him, as required by law.

According to the presidential media adviser, Tinubu advised the new hires to apply their skills and expertise to carry out their duties and diligently pursue the administration’s power sector agenda.

In Nigeria’s energy sector, particularly in the electric power sector, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission is tasked with overseeing and regulating activities.

The Electric Power Sector Reform Act of 2005 gave it its start.

In order to solve persistent problems like insufficient capacity, transmission problems, and unstable supply, NERC seeks to restructure Nigeria’s electrical industry by fostering accountability, transparency, infrastructure development, and sustainable energy growth.
