Nigeria will celebrate its 65th anniversary of independence on Tuesday, October 1, 2025, with a public holiday declared by the Federal Government.
According to reports, the official announcement of the vacation on behalf of President Bola Tinubu’s administration would be made by Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of the Interior.

On October 1, at 7:00 a.m., President Tinubu will give a nationwide broadcast as part of the festivities. It is anticipated that the speech will discuss the reform program of his administration and assess the nation’s democratic development since gaining independence in 1960.

Senior government officials, diplomatic corps members, and invited visitors will be present at the Presidential Villa in Abuja for the traditional Independence anniversary parade later this morning at 10:00 a.m.

Earlier, the Presidency had revealed the full schedule of events with the theme “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”

An interdenominational church service was performed at the National Christian Center in Abuja on Sunday, September 28.

At the National Press Center, Radio House, Abuja, on Monday, September 29, a global press conference focused on civic engagement.

With the publication of the National Values Charter (NVC) and the National Campus Debate’s spectacular finale at the State House Conference Centre on Friday, October 3, the festivities will come to an end.
