Because they are not accustomed to working hard, Nigerians are responding poorly to President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, according to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North.
He made this claim on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, while speaking to reporters at the National Assembly complex.
He asked people to exercise patience despite the nation’s current economic difficulties, stating that the advantages of the ongoing changes will soon become apparent.

“I’ll tell you the truth. I’m a businessperson, not a public servant. The things that are not occurring are few and far between. In the long run, the indicators of Mr. President’s policies may not be functioning. People are still in pain. I do agree with it, yes. However, it has begun to infiltrate at the macro level, or higher level, rather than the lower level.
He expressed his hope that the President’s ideas would be implemented and Nigerians would recognize his efforts within the next two to three years.
Kalu hailed Tinubu’s audacious actions, claiming they were unparalleled since Nigeria gained its independence, including the elimination of fuel subsidies and the standardization of foreign exchange rates.
I know the facts, and this is the first President to halt the fuel subsidy since 1960. The dollar rates were blended by this president for the first time. We are hurting because Nigerians are not accustomed to putting in a lot of effort. We’re used to making quick cash.
He claimed that in the past, people would use their phones while sitting in their homes, obtain money, and sell at extremely high prices.
Using tactics like currency speculation and profiting through tank farms and government documents, he further criticized the culture of undeserved wealth.
“People use their tank farms, gather papers, and earn money while sitting at home. According to this president, “if you are ready to make money, do it the right way.” He went on, “Leave it if you’re not ready.”
