The ongoing xenophobic attacks on foreigners in South Africa have led to a campaign by Nigerians, especially celebrities, against a forthcoming concert by singer Tyla in Nigeria.
Tyla is from South Africa, where xenophobic attacks have been ongoing, killing several Nigerians and other immigrants from other African countries.
A few days after the announcement of Tyla’s Lagos concert in December, the “South Africa thinks we’re fools” campaign kicked off.
Nigerian artistes also denied entry into South Africa, netizens accuse.
The social media campaign launched on Wednesday, saw many Nigerians including celebrities, taking to their pages in support of the campaign, citing Tyla’s failure to speak against the attacks on her platforms.
Popular OAP Do2dtun wrote on X, “If you stand for anything or not good for you but if you go for that Tyla’s show then you are a bastard.
“Burna was warned; threatened to be killed years ago if he ever came to SA over his stance on AKA’s xenophobic stance. What did you do? But you have crucified your own. We did nothing at all. They didn’t care. He took it like a gee, went on to become a world star. You guys forgot?
“But my Nigerians will rather blame people that suddenly take a stance on an artiste that come from a country that constantly desecrate on your national identity and treat Africans in the most inhumane way. Nigeria is the republic of docile and complacent people. We only know how to blow grammar.
BBNaija’s Pere Egbi has called on the Nigeria Immigration Service to stop Tyla from entering Nigeria.
On X, he said “Nigerian @nigimmigration we are collectively begging you to intentionally deny Tyla and her team visas too. They can’t do this to our own and we welcome their own.” Madness is madness.
Tyla is billed to perform in Nigeria this December and that show must not be allowed to happen,” Solomon Buchi said in an Instagram video. This is one time Nigerians have to come together and stand for something.

Sea King, a content creator in an Instagram post said, “I disagree with anyone supporting Tyla that her show in Nigeria must hold and I support everyone saying we should boycott her concert. Organizers of this event are so useless and can’t read the room.”
Also talking about the issue, Izzy Ogbeide, in a video on Instagram, accused Tyla of having the “audacity” to plan a concert in Lagos because of the failure of the Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu, to fight for the citizens.

She wrote in Pidgin English, “Na Tinubu Fail Us, If Not This Thing Wey Nor Talk About The Attacks On Nigeria Nor Go See Mouth Take Say She Dey Come Nigeria.
“Tyla Ogun Kee YourMama, So You Dey Do World Tour To Nigeria Nai You Nor Condemn The Act Of Xenophobic AttackAgainst Nigeria And Other Africa Countries.”
Nigerian digital creator and son of the late Military Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Colonel Yakubu Bako, Isa Bako, advised Nigerians to beat up anyone that attends the concert.
“So Tyla is doing a concert in Nigeria Bako said in an Instagram video. After all the xenophobia. “South Africans killing Nigerians. She never said anything but she wants to come to Nigeria to perform and make money from Nigerians. I will tell Nigerians not to say anything. You guys should just go to the venue and wait outside there to beat up anyone that attend to concert. Create a beat that makes them move their bodies, makes them learn.”
D English Alhaji, a digital creator wrote, “Tyla’s show in Nigeria must not hold. She’s not welcome here.” She is being asked to perform in her country as a result of her refusal to condemn the attack on Nigerians and other Africans in her country. If she thinks we are joking, we ask her to come forward.”
