No Business Will Invest Where Government Dictates to Judges – Jonathan

He stated that judicial independence is essential to creating a secure and reliable economic environment while speaking on Wednesday at the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation’s Democracy Dialogue in Accra, Ghana.

According to Jonathan, no investor will put money into an economy if the judiciary is tainted and controlled by politics.

“Everyone is impacted. For instance, no investor would invest in a nation with a compromised court, where a government official might order judges to render a particular verdict. He stated, “No man brings his money to invest in that economy because they are taking a big risk.”

Jonathan continued by saying that regardless of political or personal interests, Nigerian leaders must maintain justice and equity if they are to safeguard the country’s future.

“We must endeavor to do what is right, no matter how painful it is, if we are to build a nation for our children and grandchildren,” he stated.

In the meantime, former president Goodluck Jonathan must adhere to due process before running for president in 2027, according to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Abia State chapter.

The party acknowledged Jonathan’s right to run for office and claimed that the PDP is an open platform where qualified members can freely aim for any position in line with party policies and the Nigerian Constitution.

Abraham Amah, the party’s Abia State chairman, told Punch on Tuesday that a free and fair election would be used to choose the party’s presidential candidate.

However, he said Jonathan has not yet properly presented his manifesto to the party.

“The speculations and questions about former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s potential interest in running for our great party’s presidential ticket in the upcoming general elections have caught the attention of the Abia State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party,” he stated. Jonathan is free to argue.

“The People’s Democratic Party will hold a free, fair, transparent, and democratic presidential convention to choose its nominee. Personal preferences, wishful thinking, or unilateral endorsements by any one party member, organization, or structure are not the issue.

“Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has the constitutional right to run for the party’s ticket if he so chooses, as he is a respected party leader and a former president.

In line with party rules and the Nigerian Constitution, “the PDP continues to be an open, inclusive platform where every eligible member is free to aspire to any office.”

“We are aware that some influential interest groups within the PDP strongly believe that Dr. Jonathan is eminently qualified to give the party a strong and competitive representation at the national level,” he continued.

These viewpoints are acknowledged, but the convention’s delegates have the last say, according to Amah.

“The Abu PDP’s engagements are still open. Former President Jonathan still hasn’t formally presented his policy direction, vision, or agenda to the Abia PDP. Nonetheless, we think that he or any other candidate still has time to contact our chapter and ask for our help.

“All candidates are welcome to apply.” The Abia PDP stays impartial until all candidates have had a chance to present their plans and the convention makes a decision. All prospective candidates for president are welcome to come and formally introduce themselves, their platforms, and their plans for Nigeria.

“The Abia PDP keeps a close eye on national and party politics. In keeping with the interests of all of our members and stakeholders, we will formally announce our stance when the time is right,” Amah stated.
