The Nigeria Police Force’s existing organizational structure, according to retired army officer Mr. Tony Nyiam, is out of date because it was initially intended to govern colonized people rather than assist citizens in a democratic society.

Nyiam made the claim on Monday on Arise Television.

He declared, “The colonial-era policing system is no longer appropriate for modern Nigeria and is essentially unchanged.”

He claims that rather than providing community-focused security, the system was designed to impose control over the populace during colonial administration.

Nyiam maintained that the police force’s ability to effectively handle the nation’s escalating security issues has been hampered by its highly centralized structure.

The retired army general emphasized the necessity of a thorough overhaul of the police force to bring it into compliance with Nigeria’s democratic values and federal structure.

He urged decision-makers to examine the existing structure for law enforcement and implement changes that would improve the system’s responsiveness, accountability, and ability to successfully safeguard people and property nationwide.
