Following his impeachment by 32 of the 40-member Lagos State House of Assembly last week, President Bola Tinubu is said to have implicitly approved the expulsion of Hon. Mudasiru Obasa as Speaker of the Assembly.
Obasa was removed by the parliamentarians due to alleged violations, which included highhandedness and corruption.
The newly elected Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) were among the new leadership of the Assembly that President Tinubu met with in a private meeting in Abuja on Wednesday night.

The outgoing Speaker Obasa was allegedly in Abuja, but Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat were conspicuously absent from the meeting.
President Tinubu was unhappy with the way the MPs executed the impeachment, comparing it to a coup, according to sources who spoke to Western Post.
But although GAC leaders begged him to do so and acknowledged Obasa’s alleged abuses, Tinubu grudgingly accepted the Assembly’s resolution.
In her leadership, Speaker Meranda promised to put openness, inclusivity, and good governance first, making sure that Lagosians would effectively receive the benefits of democracy.
