Anambra State’s Fegge Onitsha saw a fire tragedy that destroyed property worth millions of naira, causing chaos.
One of the victims, who only gave reporters his name as Jude, described the incident as occurring on Thursday, May 8.
An electrical surge was blamed for the fire by the person who claimed to run a small industrial sewing factory on the building’s top floor.
He informed Daily Post that a shaky energy supply caused the fire to start around 2:30 am and continued all night Wednesday, causing large damages.
Jude added that everything was destroyed by the fire, including six more sewing machines, seven industrial sewing machines costing about ₦1.5 million apiece, and an unknown quantity of fabric materials valued at millions of naira.
Landlord Aaron Ezeobi, meantime, voiced his annoyance, claiming that he had cautioned his tenant on several occasions not to use the residential property for commercial or workshop reasons.
“I had already given him a notice to depart, which was supposed to go into effect the month before the fire. Because building supplies are so expensive, I’m hurt,” he stated.
The victims of the recent fire calamity have received condolences from Emeka Idu, the member of the House of Representatives for the Onitsha North & South Constituency.
He offered his condolences to the renter and the landlord, encouraging them to endure their loss in order to avoid any possible health problems.
Idu gave Jude financial assistance and prayed for a speedy recovery.
He also promised to look into the price of the industrial sewing machines in order to make more help possible.

Idu further asked that the landlord let him know when the damaged building’s roof is being replaced so that he can make a financial contribution.
