Orji Uzor Kalu, the senator for Abia North, has promised to use every political tool at his disposal to guarantee that the All Progressives Congress (APC) wins Abia State in the general elections of 2027.
According to reports, Kalu made the statement on Thursday when paying Stanley Okoro-Emegha, the chairman of the APC in Ebonyi State, his yearly New Year’s visit in Ekoli in Edda Local Government Area.
The former governor of Abia State stated that the APC must overthrow the state’s ruling Labour Party and emphasized that he will stop at nothing to secure the party a resounding win.
“In the elections, I would back both President Bola Tinubu and the APC candidate for governor.
“I’ll give it everything I’ve got to make sure the APC wins the Abia poll handily.
“Dr. Alex Otti, the current governor, is my friend, but I’m not talking about friendship here. I am referring to the APC’s complete electoral triumph,” he continued.
Additionally, Kalu urged state governors across to assume full accountability for protecting people and property in their states rather than depending entirely on the President.
The senator said that strong leadership could greatly reduce insecurity, recalling his tenure as governor.
“As governor of Abia, I made sure that people and property were completely safe.
“At a time when other states were struggling with increased insecurity, there were no cases of kidnapping and other crimes in Abia,” he stated.
He commended Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi State, for upholding peace in the state and advised other governors to follow in his footsteps.
“The governors ought to follow in the footsteps of Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, who has made sure the state has sufficient peace and security,” Kalu said.
Kalu explained that Okoro-Emegha’s steadfast commitment throughout the years was the reason behind his annual New Year’s visit to the Ebonyi APC chairman.
“You can trust him with your life and he is an embodiment of loyalty,” Kalu remarked.
“He was one of the success stories I documented as a governor, and I raised him as a child even when his father was still alive.”
Kalu further disclosed that he personally counseled former Ebonyi State Governor and current Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, to maintain his resolve when Okoro-Emegha was turned over to him.
“I advised former Governor David Umahi to offer his principle 100% loyalty when I handed him over.
He said, “He has carried that same virtue forward and transferred it to Francis Nwifuru, the current governor.”
