Adams Oshiomhole, a Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District has described the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, as a house of thieves following the claim by a former Chief Financial Officer of the company, Umar Aliya.

During a session by the Senate Public Accounts Committee probing alleged misappropriation of funds running into trillions of naira, Aliya had claimed that some officials want their children employed in the government-owned company.

Oshiomhole, who reacted furiously to the claim, said NNPC has no reputation, adding that the officials allegedly seeking employment for their children only want their family to benefit from their financial crimes.

“I heard you saying that people want their children to be employed in NNPC, that is because it is a house of thieves and they want their children to benefit from it.

“NNPC has no reputation, your reputation is fraud. How can you sit here and say people want their children employed in NNPC? “So you think we are laughing at you here”?

There have been reactions on social media to Oshiomhole’s take on the company’s operations with some netizens praising his courage.
