When Galatasaray travels to play Monaco in the UEFA Champions League later tonight at 9 p.m., Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen may start a new chapter in his career.
Osimhen has scored six goals in just three games this season, demonstrating his merciless form on the biggest stage in Europe. The Turkish champions have won every game he has played and lost the two he missed due to injury thanks to his finishing.
Osimhen tied Burak Yilmaz’s record of scoring in six consecutive European games for the club in 2012 prior to Galatasaray’s 3-1 victory over Bodo/Glimt. He broke the record for consecutive European goals for the Istanbul giants with his brace against the Norwegian team, increasing his streak to seven.
After surpassing Obafemi Martins in the group stage victory against Liverpool two months ago, the 26-year-old also became Nigeria’s top scorer in Champions League history.
From his stint at Lille to his historic tenure at Napoli, Osimhen has made it a habit to smash records. He would join some of the great Galatasaray forwards who have excelled in Europe if he scored at the Stade Louis II today.
In his last eight games for the team in all European tournaments, the former CAF Player of the Year has scored twelve goals. With another goal, he would surpass Milan Baros and Shabani Nonda, who are now tied with him. He is also getting closer to Galatasaray veteran Hakan Sukur, who is currently only one goal behind his Champions League total of 13.
